Overview

Hindustani music, also known as North Indian classical music, has a rich history and is considered to be a highly respected art form in India. It has numerous benefits which include scientific, spiritual, psychological, and an overall holistic approach to personality development. Pascul is providing a unique opportunity for students to learn Hindustani vocal music in a systematic curriculum and a clear path of progression.

Overview:

The Junior Level course is designed to introduce the concept of Raga. Raga is a melodic framework for improvisation in classical music. It is built upon the basic understanding of Swaras and Taala. (For further details about Basics, please refer the Basics- level course). This course includes providing a deeper understanding of the structures of Raaga, taaLa and expressions through meticulous techniques.

Objectives
  • Application of the basics(paltas, alankars, swara progressions) in understanding the Raaga and TaaLa.
  • Understanding Thaats, and the origin of Ragas.
  • Studying and identifying the characteristics of all the Raagas.
  • Creating Alankars, basic patterns and swarageete in the Raga.
  • To learn the _Lakshana geete_ with it's notation.
  • Learning _Chota Khayal(Bandish)_ with the notation, Alap, Bola alap and taans in accordance with the rhythm and taal.
  • Developing listening skills by doing simple Swara mapping techniques, exercises, and understanding/identifying theplacement of each Swara/swara patterns.
  • Writing skills of all above.
  • Learning Bhajans, Drupads and Vachanas in the given Ragas.
  • Studying the theory of Indian classical music.

  • 3 years course
  • Weekly 3 classes
  • Duration - 1 hr
Age criteria

1. Minimum age limit for Junior- level Karnataka -Board exam is 10yrs (as per Govt rule) So, students can join at the age of 8 years and above.

  • 8 years to 9 years (1st year)
  • 9 years to 10 years (2nd year)
  • 10 years to 11 years (3rd year)

It promotes students' all-around growth by exposing them to music genres and styles other than classical music. It serves as a link to help students get back to their geographical, cultural, or spiritual beginnings from a joyful learning experience.

  • To understand how to apply the knowledge of Ragas in understanding the lyrics.
  • To understand the Taala of the lyrics.
  • To learn how to express the emotion of the Raga and Lyrics and perform effectively.
  • To understand the meaning of the Lyrics apart from learning it musically.
  • To learn both individual singing and group coordination.
  • To learn how to sing with accompaniment.
